On Wednesday, April 18, 2012, KZV Armenian School upper elementary and middle school students and teachers welcomed the Armenian intellectual Mr. Garegin Chookaszyan. Principal Grace Andonian presented the guest to the students and said that through the use of computers Mr. Chookaszyan is trying to compile and preserve the Armenian culture.
Mr. Chookaszyan talked in detail about his projects. First, he presented the first two DVD/CDs that were a compilation of Gomidas Vartabed’s life, work and songs. The students listened to songs performed by various Armenian artists and by Gomidas Vartabed himself. They were even able to sing some of the songs through Karaoke with on-screen text lyrics in Armenian and in English.
Then Mr. Chookaszyan presented the DVD/CD on the renowned composer Aram Khachaturian. The students saw pictures of Khachaturian when he was young and heard some of his famous pieces such as “Saber Dance”. The students followed the presentation of the CD dedicated to the Armenian Genocide that highly touched and interested the young audience.
Then Mr. Chookaszyan presented his last CD on the biography and work of Baruyr Sevag.
After the presentation, the students and teachers were thankful to have this opportunity to meet Mr. Chookaszyan and learn about this enormous compilation. Friend and supporter of the school, Mr. Tony Moroyan, who was accompanying Mr. Chookaszyan, donated the set of five DVD/CDs to the school. Thank you both.
