After School Study Hall
On Wednesdays, afterschool, eager middle school learners meet in the 6th and 8th grade classrooms for study hall. The students work in small groups or individually to study for tests and do their homework. Although the work is serious, we also have fun times with our discussions. The students try to help each other with problems, and Mr. Sallat and Ms. Saryan are available for short explanations. Students who wish to attend study hall must register at the office. Registered students must be in the classrooms by 3:45pm and must leave at 4:45pm. All K.Z.V. middle school students are welcome to join study hall and raise those grades.
Araz Armenian Dance Group
Started eight years ago under the umbrella of Hamazkayin Nigol Aghbalian Chapter with 14 dancers, today the dance group comprises of more than 30 dancers in the age group of 8-15 years old. Araz Dance Group is an after school Armenian Dance Program for our students starting from second grade. The instructor is Mrs. Ani Berberian-Ayanian, who performed for many years with Hamazkayin Dance Group in Beirut, Lebanon.
The after-school chess session, besides being fun and educational, also teaches critical & abstract thinking, planning, logic and analysis. It builds self-confidence, develops self-learning tools and students learn how to evaluate their own decision making process. It improves the ability to concentrate and teaches the value of good sportsmanship. Chess also teaches the importance of behavior management: making good choices and considering all possibilities. Students who learn chess will sharpen their observation skills which will be very useful in many aspects of their life.
This after school session meets once a week for 1 hour and are open to students from grade K through 8th. It provides a safe, nurturing environment for students to learn abstract concepts and compete with each other in a mental game.
